Husband’s Responsibilities

husband's responsibilitiesUnity developed through clear understanding of the husband’s responsibilities is key to a healthy relationship.

Imagine the confusion that would occur on a football team if no one knew their responsibilities.

This kind of confusion and frustration does exist in many marriages. It can be sorted out by knowing your responsibilities as a husband

Husband’s responsibilities – Your wife’s leader

The husband’s responsibilities include being the wife’s leader according to Ephesians 5:23

“For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.”

and 1 Corinthians 11:3

“Now I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.”

The bible does not speak about giving orders here. A leader is first and foremost a servant. A husband’s concern must be for the needs of others, specifically his wife.

In John 13:1-15 Jesus gives us the idea of what it means to be a leader. Jesus is not on a throne. He has a towel wrapped around him and has a basin in his hand. He is washing his disciples feet.

This is what it means to be a leader. Applying this to the husband’s responsibilities means he must be the family’s biggest servant.

Husband’s responsibilities -Your wife’s lover

The Bible also says that the husband’s responsibilities include being their wife’s lovers. God commands the husband to love his wife three times in Ephesians 5. God must have thought it was very important for husbands to know if He repeated three it times.

This love is to be like the love that Christ has for His church. This love is unconditional, intense, unending, unselfish and sacrificial.

We are also told we are to live with our wives in an understanding way. The best way to do this is by communicating your love for your wife.

You can do this by using words. Simply saying and meaning “I love you” can mean all the difference.

You may show your love by providing for your wife’s needs. Whether they be physical, emotional, intellectual, social, sexual or spiritual. You need to be concerned about all these areas if you are going to be a good lover.

You may also love your wife by sharing your life with her. The more a husband shares with his wife, the more he opens up to her, the more she gets the message that he cares and the more she knows that he loves her.

The husband’s responsibilities is simple, but difficult. God calls husbands to be our wife’s leader and lover.

I challenge you to look at your relationship with your wife.

Look to see where you are being her leader, just as Christ is the leader of the church.

Are you loving her the way that Jesus Christ loves the church?
